Post Rapture Looting was originally inspired by a Facebook joke event created by Ben. The event was created about 10 days before Harold Camping’s failed rapture on May 21, 2011. The event was sent to Carl who immediately posted it on every Atheist Facebook site he could think of.
The Post rapture looting event went viral on Facebook over the next 10 days. Eventually over 830,000 people RSVP’d to do their own post rapture looting. The invite went to over 2,000,000 people world wide. Ben & Carl did radio and newspaper interviews and the event was even mentioned on FOX News, BBC, Huffington Post and other major news sources.
In August of 2011, Ben & Carl created a podcast called Post Rapture Looting. It’s an Atheist themed podcast where they make jokes at the expense of religious people and their imaginary friend(s). Realizing that Harold Camping wasn’t the only person exploiting people with religion, the podcast focuses on the crazy and stupid things that people do in the name of their belief. There is no shortage of crazy things being done in the name of religion, so the podcast is able to make jokes and critically examine current events free of religious dogma.
